Brown-throated Martin, Riparia paludicola, is a swallow in the family Hirundinidae that breeds widely across Africa. First described by Vieillot in 1817, it is a small bird with a brown back and a pale underside, and it can be picked out from many other swallows by its small size and brisk, jerky flight. It is closely tied to water and is often found near it. The species nests in colonies, with pairs breeding close together where space allows, and it uses tunnels dug into sandbanks for its breeding sites.
