Brown-winged Kingfisher

Pelargopsis amauroptera

The Brown-winged Kingfisher (Pelargopsis amauroptera) is a medium-sized kingfisher found in the mangroves and coastal forests of the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. It has a distinctive brown and rufous plumage with a white throat and a long, sharp bill. This species is known for its solitary nature and can often be seen perched on branches near water bodies, waiting to dive for its prey. It feeds mainly on fish and crustaceans. The Brown-winged Kingfisher is known for its distinctive call, a series of high-pitched whistles. Although not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and degradation are potential future threats to this species.
