Buff-throated Purpletuft Iodopleura pipra lives in eastern and south-eastern Brazil, where it is tied to the Atlantic Forest. It occurs in primary and secondary forest, cocoa plantations with tree cover, and openings with scattered trees, usually below 1,000 m. This Brazilian endemic has a restricted, patchy range along the coast. It is a small passerine with long wings, a short tail and a broad bill ending in a hook. The sexes are very similar, and males alone carry a small purple tuft on the upper flank. The throat and upper breast are cinnamon-buff.
