Buffy Helmetcrest, Oxypogon stuebelii, is a hummingbird found only in central Colombia, where it breeds in the Nevado del Ruiz area and nearby páramo on the border of Tolima and Caldas. It lives in humid open páramo and makes particular use of Espeletia plants. The male has a long buff and black crest, a dark face with a pale collar, and a narrow glittering throat patch that gives the bird its beard-like look. The species was described by Meyer, AB, 1884.
