About this tour
This private 12-day journey runs south from Medellín to Cali through the endemic-rich Western and Central Andes. It links Jardín’s cloud forest, the reserve network near Manizales, high páramo in Los Nevados, dry forest and wetlands around Buga, and Chocó-influenced habitat on the approach to Cali.
The route is organised around elevation and specialised conservation sites. Yellow-eared Parrot and Andean Cock-of-the-Rock are key possibilities near Jardín; Río Blanco and Hacienda El Bosque add established antpitta-feeding areas; Los Nevados brings high-altitude targets such as Buffy Helmetcrest; and the final days seek Western Andean and Chocó specialties near Anchicayá and Km 18.
Paula guides in English or Spanish for one to four guests, with private ground transport, reserve access and activity insurance included. Most field walks use established but sometimes muddy trails, generally at a slow birding pace. The route reaches roughly 4,200 metres in the páramo, so cold-weather layers and awareness of altitude are important. Exact accommodation and meal arrangements are confirmed in the final proposal.

Travel south from Medellín, stopping for birding in the tropical dry forest of the Cauca River valley. Reach Jardín for an afternoon visit to an Andean Cock-of-the-Rock display ground.
Spend a full day in the cloud forest and coffee landscape around Jardín. Searches respond to current activity across the area’s elevation and habitat mosaic.
Visit an Oilbird reserve for a daylight observation opportunity before continuing toward Manizales. Settle into the reserve network used for the following Central Andean days.
Bird the Tinamú Reserve for possibilities such as Bar-crested Antshrike and the endemic Parker’s Antbird. Time is also allocated to the Golden-collared Manakin display area.
Explore Río Blanco, one of Colombia’s established antpitta-feeding reserves. Possible feeder visitors include Slate-crowned and Brown-banded Antpittas as well as Chestnut-crowned Antpitta, with wider cloud-forest birding between sessions.
Continue to Hacienda El Bosque for Equatorial and Crescent-faced Antpittas, together with Gray-breasted Mountain-Toucan. All encounters depend on current conditions and bird behaviour.
Climb into the high páramo of Los Nevados for Buffy Helmetcrest, Rufous-fronted Parakeet and possible Andean Condor. The day closes with time at natural hot springs after the high-altitude field session.
Leave the Central Andes for Guadalajara de Buga in the Valle del Cauca. This transfer positions the group for the dry-forest and wetland birding that follows.
Explore tropical dry forest and wetland habitat around Sonso Lagoon. Grayish Piculet and Apical Flycatcher are regional possibilities, supported by a varied waterbird community.
Enter the Chocó-influenced Anchicayá corridor at Doña Dora. Searches may include Toucan Barbet, Tatamá Tapaculo and Club-winged Manakin, along with mixed flocks moving through the forest.
Visit the feeder-rich sites around La Florida and Km 18. Multicolored Tanager, Colombian Chachalaca and Chestnut Wood-Quail are among the stated possibilities.
Complete the southbound journey in Cali. The final transfer is coordinated with the guest’s confirmed onward travel.
