Vultur gryphus
The Andean Condor is a massive bird of prey found in the Andes mountains and adjacent Pacific coasts of South America. It has a wingspan of up to 3.3 meters, making it one of the largest flying birds. With a mostly black plumage, the Andean Condor has a distinctive white collar and patches on its wings. It is a scavenger, feeding on carrion, and is known for its exceptional soaring abilities, often riding thermals for hours without flapping its wings. These birds play a significant role in the ecosystems they inhabit, and are revered in many Andean cultures.
