Condors of Cusco - Full Day
A full-day journey from Cusco through Limatambo to the Chonta viewpoints above the Apurimac Canyon. The schedule combines a scenic drive, an approachable highland walk and dedicated observation time for Andean Condors.
About this tour
Travel from Cusco to Chonta for a focused Andean Condor experience above the Apurimac Canyon. The route crosses open Andean country before reaching the checkpoint and the walking trail to the observation area.
The approach to the first viewpoint takes about 50 minutes at a gentle pace. From there, time is set aside to watch condors using the canyon air currents, learn about their behaviour and conservation, and eat a box lunch. A further short trail and descent connect additional viewpoints.
Andean Condor is the tour’s central target, but its appearance cannot be guaranteed. Weather and the movements of wild birds determine each day’s observations.

Day 1
Chonta Condor Viewpoints
Hotel pickup in Cusco is scheduled for 10:00 am, followed by the drive toward Limatambo and Chonta. Reach the checkpoint at around 12:30 pm for a short facilities stop, then begin the roughly 50-minute walk to the canyon viewpoint at about 12:45 pm. The main condor-watching period is planned between 1:30 and 3:00 pm, with box lunch and natural-history interpretation. A further trail of about 30 minutes leads toward additional viewpoints before the return.
