About this tour
Travel from the tropical lowlands around Santa Cruz into forested valleys, Andean foothills and the cloud forest of Serrania de Siberia before finishing among the dry valleys used by Red-fronted Macaws.
The changing habitats create opportunities for a broad mix of eastern Bolivian birds, including range-restricted species. Stops around Lomas de Arena, Refugio Los Volcanes, Samaipata and Comarapa give the guide room to respond to current conditions and the group's target list.

Itinerary
Day 1
Santa Cruz and Lomas de Arena
Begin around Santa Cruz in lowland forest, wetland and open-country habitats, then explore the mosaic of dunes, grassland, wetland and forest at Lomas de Arena. Return to Santa Cruz for the night.
Day 2
Santa Cruz to Refugio Los Volcanes
Travel toward Amboro National Park as tropical lowlands give way to forested valleys and subtropical foothills. Bird the refuge trails during the afternoon and stay overnight at the refuge.
Day 3
Los Volcanes, Samaipata and Comarapa
Bird the refuge early, continue to a hummingbird site near Samaipata, then travel through the Andean foothills to Comarapa for the night.
Day 4
Comarapa and Siberia cloud forest
Spend a full day in montane and inter-Andean habitats around Comarapa and the cloud forest of Serrania de Siberia, concentrating on regional specialties. Overnight in Comarapa.
Day 5
Red-fronted Macaw country
After early birding near Comarapa, descend into the dry valleys and continue to the Red-fronted Macaw Reserve. Explore the reserve during the afternoon and stay overnight nearby.
Day 6
Macaw reserve and return to Santa Cruz
Use the early morning for final birding in the reserve, then return via Samaipata with birding stops selected for current conditions. Reach Santa Cruz during the afternoon or evening.
