Red-tailed Comet, Sappho sparganurus, is a hummingbird of the Andes in northern Bolivia to central Chile. It was described by Shaw in 1812 and is the only member of its genus. The bird is linked with arid mountain scrub on Andean slopes and in valleys, and it also uses Polylepis woodland. Its breeding range is given as South America from northern Bolivia to central Chile.
