Buller's Shearwater

Ardenna bulleri (Salvin, 1888)

Buller's Shearwater, Ardenna bulleri, is a Procellariidae seabird that breeds in the Pacific Ocean on the Poor Knights Islands off north-eastern New Zealand. Outside the breeding season it ranges across the subarctic north Pacific, and it also reaches eastern Australia and western South American waters as far south as Chile. It nests in colonies in burrows, rock crevices and under tree roots, with most breeding on Tawhiti Rahi and Aorangi. The species is also known for its distinctive flight pattern, which makes it straightforward to pick out at sea.
