Selasphorus heloisa (Lesson, RP & Delattre, 1839)

Bumblebee Hummingbird, Selasphorus heloisa, is a hummingbird of Middle America, breeding in Mexico and centred on the country’s mountain systems. It is one of the smallest hummingbirds, and both sexes show a short blackish bill and a small white mark behind the eye. The species occurs in montane forest, cloudforest and humid scrub, using edges, clearings and interior areas. It is found from 1,500 to 3,000 m. One record comes from southeastern Arizona. The nominate and margarethae forms differ in size and plumage, with the latter smaller and paler in several features.
