Cape Verde Swift, Apus alexandri, lives in the Cape Verde Islands off north-west Africa. It is a swift of the family Apodidae and was described by Hartert, EJO, 1901. It occurs on all the islands in the archipelago, and the breeding range given for it covers the whole group. It is the island swift also known as Alexander’s Swift. The bird is named for Boyd Alexander, an English ornithologist who visited the islands on two expeditions in 1897.
