Caracas Tapaculo

Scytalopus caracae

The Caracas Tapaculo is a small, secretive bird found in the cloud forests of Venezuela. It has a dark plumage with subtle brown and gray tones, and a short tail. This species is known for its distinctive vocalizations, often heard in the dense undergrowth where it forages for insects and small invertebrates. The Caracas Tapaculo is typically found at elevations between 1,000 and 2,000 meters, where it inhabits mossy and humid montane forests. Due to its elusive nature and limited range, this species is poorly studied, and its population status is not well understood.
