Caracas Tapaculo

Scytalopus caracae Hellmayr, 1922

Caracas Tapaculo, Scytalopus caracae, is a bird of the Venezuelan Coastal Range and a separate area where Sucre, Anzoátegui and Monagas meet in Venezuela. It belongs to the Rhinocryptidae family and was first described by Hellmayr in 1922. It was once treated as part of brown-rumped tapaculo, but is now recognised on the basis of vocal differences. Its range is in the undergrowth of humid forest, including primary and secondary woodland and forest edges, and it is not usually found in Chusquea bamboo.
