About this tour
The West to East Northern Venezuela Birding Tour is a comprehensive 16-day exploration of the country’s most distinctive northern ecosystems, designed for birders eager to experience a remarkable concentration of endemic and range-restricted species. Traveling across Venezuela’s Coastal Cordillera and dry northern regions before reaching the legendary Orinoco Delta, this tour delivers exceptional habitat diversity and outstanding birding opportunities.
Our journey begins in the Coastal Range, where lush montane forests, foothills, and fragmented cloud forests harbor some of Venezuela’s most sought-after endemics. Here, we search for specialties such as Caracas Tapaculo, Venezuelan Bristle-Tyrant, Venezuelan Tyrannulet, Caracas Brushfinch, Paria Brushfinch, and the stunning Venezuelan Sylph. These forests also provide excellent chances to observe antpittas, foliage-gleaners, fruiteaters, and a wide variety of hummingbirds and tanagers.
As we move eastward, the landscape gradually changes to dry forests and arid zones, home to highly localized species rarely seen elsewhere. This contrast in habitats adds significantly to the species list and offers a deeper understanding of Venezuela’s ecological diversity. The tour then continues into the wetlands and river systems of the Orinoco Delta, where mangroves, flooded forests, and waterways support a completely different bird community, adding lowland and aquatic species to the experience.
With a maximum of 6 participants, the tour maintains a relaxed pace and allows for personalized guiding, optimal viewing conditions, and ample time for photography and observation. Led by experienced birding guides, this west-to-east journey across northern Venezuela is ideal for dedicated birders and adventurous nature lovers seeking rare endemics, diverse habitats, and an immersive birding experience in one of South America’s most underexplored regions.
