Pipreola formosa (Hartlaub, 1849)

Handsome Fruiteater, Pipreola formosa, is a passerine of the Cotingidae family found in Venezuela, where it is endemic. It lives in humid to wet premontane forest and cloudforest across separate parts of the Venezuelan Coastal Range, with the nominate form in the west, P. f. rubidior in the north-east, and P. f. pariae on the Paria Peninsula. It is a resident bird. The species was first described by Hartlaub and is known for the strong differences between the sexes, with adults showing distinct plumage and eye colour, and juveniles remaining overall green.
