Chestnut-crowned Antpitta

Grallaricula loricata

The Chestnut-crowned Antpitta is a small, secretive bird found in the cloud forests of the Andes in South America. It has a distinctive chestnut crown and a mottled brown and white plumage that provides excellent camouflage among the leaf litter on the forest floor. These birds are primarily insectivorous, foraging for invertebrates in the dense undergrowth. They have a unique, piercing call that can be heard echoing through the misty forests. Due to their elusive nature and remote habitat, they are rarely seen by humans.
