Choco Toucan

Ramphastos brevis Meyer de Schauensee, 1945

Choco Toucan, Ramphastos brevis, is a toucan of the humid Chocó belt in north-west Colombia and south-west Ecuador. It was described by Meyer de Schauensee in 1945. Its breeding range runs through that same region. The species is closely tied to lowland and foothill forest, though it also uses pastures and plantations when fruiting trees stand beside woodland. It is a member of the Ramphastidae and is placed in the order Piciformes. A key feature is its bill pattern, with a mostly yellow upper bill, some green along the ridge, and a black mark at the base.
