Club-winged Manakin

Machaeropterus deliciosus

The Club-winged Manakin is a small passerine bird found in the humid forests of South America. It is known for its unique courtship display, where males produce a distinctive high-pitched sound by rubbing their wings together at an incredibly rapid rate. This species is sexually dimorphic, with males displaying striking black and white plumage and females having more subdued olive-green coloration. They primarily feed on fruits and insects and are often found in the lower levels of the forest. Due to habitat loss and fragmentation, the Club-winged Manakin faces threats to its population, and its conservation status is currently categorized as Near Threatened by the IUCN.
