Common Rosefinch

Carpodacus erythrinus

The Common Rosefinch, scientifically known as Carpodacus erythrinus, is a small passerine bird found in Europe and Asia. The male has a striking rosy-red plumage with a distinctive red head and breast, while the female has a more subdued brownish coloration. These birds are often found in open woodlands, scrub, and gardens, where they forage for seeds, insects, and berries. During the breeding season, the male sings a melodious and warbling song to attract a mate. The Common Rosefinch is known for its migratory behavior, with populations in Europe wintering in Africa and those in Asia migrating to southern Asia. Despite facing threats from habitat loss and predation, the species is currently of Least Concern according to the IUCN Red List.
