Crowned Cormorant

Microcarbo coronatus (Wahlberg, 1855)

Crowned Cormorant, Microcarbo coronatus, is a coastal bird of south-western Africa, from north-west Namibia to the southern tip of South Africa. It is confined to the shoreline and stays close to land, never far offshore. A member of the cormorant family, it is a small species with a short crest on the head in adults. Its range follows the coast from Swakopmund to Cape Agulhas, and it was first described by Wahlberg in 1855.
