Crowned Woodnymph, Thalurania colombica, is a hummingbird that breeds from Guatemala through Middle America and on into South America as far as Ecuador and north-west Peru. It was described by Bourcier in 1843. The species is placed in the family Trochilidae and the order Apodiformes. It is known for the violet crown shown by adult males of the nominate form, while females have bright green upperparts and pale grey underparts. Several subspecies are recognised across its range, with regional differences in plumage.
