Cuban Grassquit

Phonipara canora (Gmelin, JF, 1789)

Cuban Grassquit, Phonipara canora, is a passerine found in Cuba, where it breeds and occurs only on that island. It belongs to the tanager family Thraupidae. Its habitat includes moist lowland forest, moist montane forest, dry shrubland, and heavily altered former forest. The species was first described in 1789 by Gmelin. It is the only species in its genus, and no subspecies are recognised.
