Cuban Solitaire

Myadestes elisabeth (Lembeye, 1850)

Turdidae — Thrushes

Cuban Solitaire, Myadestes elisabeth, is a thrush found only in Cuba, where it breeds in the island’s western and eastern uplands. It lives in pine, semi-deciduous and evergreen forest in hills and mountains, reaching 2,000 m. The bird is a resident throughout the year. It feeds on insects and fruit, including ripe pine nuts, and takes food mainly in the canopy, though it may also feed lower down on slopes. Breeding takes place from February to July, with a hidden cup nest placed in a tree hole or rock crevice.
