Dark-backed Wood-Quail

Odontophorus melanonotus

The Dark-backed Wood-Quail is a medium-sized bird found in the cloud forests of South America. It has a dark brown plumage with a distinctive black back and white streaks on the throat. This species is known for its secretive nature, often foraging on the forest floor for seeds, fruits, and insects. It forms monogamous pairs and builds dome-shaped nests on the ground. The Dark-backed Wood-Quail faces threats from habitat loss and hunting in some parts of its range.
