Daurian Redstart, Phoenicurus auroreus, is a passerine of central and eastern Palearctic breeding areas, with wintering birds in southern China and north-east India. It was first named by Pallas in 1776 and is placed in the Old World flycatcher family. The species is known for marked differences between the sexes. Males in breeding plumage show a grey head, a dark face and throat, brown upperparts, a bold white wing patch, and orange on the underparts, lower back and rump, with a black tail edged in orange. Females are browner, with paler underparts, an orange rump and tail sides, and the same wing patch.
