About this tour

This three-day route from Chiang Mai gives repeated opportunities to bird the slopes of Doi Angkhang. The pine stands above 1,000 meters are a focus for Hume’s Pheasant. Mountain Bamboo-Partridge, Giant Nuthatch and buzzards are among the other possibilities.

Stay near the birding area for two nights so the middle day can start early in the hills. The final day includes morning and afternoon sessions before the return to Chiang Mai.

Itinerary

Day 1
Chiang Mai to Doi Angkhang
Meals: B L D

Meet at Chiang Mai Airport or a hotel in town. Drive to Doi Angkhang and begin birding with the guide. Stay at a resort near the birding area.

Day 2
Pine forest and mountain birds
06:00 - 18:30
Meals: B L D

Start at about 6 a.m. and check the pine stands above 1,000 meters for Hume’s Pheasant. Watch for Mountain Bamboo-Partridge and Common and Rufous-winged Buzzards. Stop for lunch at noon and resume around 1:30 p.m. Dinner is planned for 6:30 p.m. and the night is spent at the resort.

Day 3
Final highland session and Chiang Mai transfer
06:00 - 16:30
Meals: B L

Begin around 6 a.m. for more birding at Doi Angkhang. Break for lunch at noon and make a final outing around 1:30 p.m. Leave at about 4 p.m. for Chiang Mai Airport or a hotel in town.
