Diard's Trogon

Harpactes diardii (Temminck, 1832)

Diard's Trogon, Harpactes diardii, breeds in the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra and Borneo in the Oriental Region. It is a trogon in the family Trogonidae and lives in moist lowland forest. The male has a black head and breast with a pink line across the breast, while the female has a brown head and breast with pink underparts. Breeding runs from February to August, with Malaysia from February to mid-May and Borneo from mid-May to August. The Dayak Iban regard hearing its call as a bad omen.
