Double-eyed Fig Parrot

Cyclopsitta diophthalma (Hombron & Jacquinot, 1841)

Double-eyed Fig Parrot, Cyclopsitta diophthalma, breeds in New Guinea, its satellite islands and north-eastern Australia. It is a parrot of forests and is the smallest parrot in Australia. Most forms show differences between the sexes, with males having stronger red on the face than females. The bird is mainly green, with a very short tail, a large head and bill, and red and blue markings on the face. Its name comes from the blue mark on the lores, which in New Guinea birds is about the same size as the eyes.
