Eurasian Tree Sparrow, Passer montanus, is a sparrow of the Palearctic and Oriental regions, breeding from the British Isles and southern Scandinavia through much of Eurasia to Japan, the Philippines and the Indonesian Archipelago, and also on Gran Canaria and in many introduced areas. It is a bird of farms, parks and cities, and it makes short-distance movements outside the breeding season. It is marked by a chestnut crown and nape and by black patches on white cheeks. The sexes look alike, and the young are less vivid than adults.
