European Turtle Dove

Streptopelia turtur

The European Turtle Dove is a medium-sized bird known for its gentle cooing call. This migratory species breeds in open woodlands, scrublands, and farmlands across Europe and western Asia, and winters in sub-Saharan Africa. It has a distinctive soft pinkish-grey plumage with a black and white striped patch on its neck. The European Turtle Dove primarily feeds on seeds and grains, and its declining population is largely attributed to habitat loss, hunting, and the impact of pesticides on its food sources.
