Evening Grosbeak

Hesperiphona vespertina

The Evening Grosbeak is a strikingly colored finch with a robust, conical bill. Males are bright yellow with black and white markings on the wings and tail, while females are a more subdued yellow and gray. These social birds are known for their irruptive behavior, often appearing in large flocks in areas where they are not typically found. They are highly nomadic, moving in response to food availability. Evening Grosbeaks are primarily seed-eaters and are often attracted to bird feeders. Their melodious and far-carrying calls are a characteristic sound of coniferous and mixed forests across their range.
