Gabela Akalat

Sheppardia gabela

The Gabela Akalat (Sheppardia gabela) is a small, elusive bird species found in the montane forests of Angola. It has a distinctive dark plumage with a white belly and a rufous tail. This species is known for its melodious and varied song, often heard in the dense undergrowth of its habitat. Gabela Akalats forage on the forest floor for insects and small invertebrates, using their slender bills to probe leaf litter and soil. Due to habitat loss and fragmentation, the Gabela Akalat is considered vulnerable to extinction.
