Patagona gigas

The Giant Hummingbird (Patagona gigas) is the largest hummingbird species, measuring around 20 cm in length. It is native to the Andes mountains of South America, where it can be found at high elevations up to 4,000 meters. This impressive bird has a distinctive long bill and exhibits iridescent green and bronze plumage on its upperparts, with a white belly and a white stripe behind the eye. The Giant Hummingbird is known for its impressive hovering and darting flight as it feeds on nectar from various flowers, as well as catching insects in mid-air. It is a remarkable sight to observe in its mountainous habitat.
