Sacred Valley Hummingbirds, Endemics and Wetlands - Extended Half Day
An extended half-day across four Sacred Valley habitats: dry scrub, eucalyptus woodland, high-Andean water, a reed pond and the Ensifera Camp garden. The compact route combines Cusco endemics, wetland birds and hummingbirds.
About this tour
Sample several nearby Sacred Valley ecosystems in one morning rather than concentrating on a single site. Early dry scrub and eucalyptus woodland are followed by Piuray Lagoon, a smaller reed-fringed pond and the flowering garden at Ensifera Camp.
The route is built around a varied target mix. Chestnut-breasted Mountain Finch, Rusty-fronted Canastero and Creamy-crested Spinetail represent the drier highlands; Many-colored Rush Tyrant and Andean Duck occur around wet areas; Giant Hummingbird is among the garden highlights.
This easy-to-moderate outing begins before the main daytime traffic and uses short walks and roadside observation. Seasonal conditions influence both migrant numbers and hummingbird activity.

Itinerary
Day 1
Sacred Valley Endemics, Wetlands and Hummingbirds
Pickup from the Cusco hotel is at 6:00 am. Begin in dry scrub and eucalyptus woodland for Chestnut-breasted Mountain Finch, Rusty-fronted Canastero and Creamy-crested Spinetail. Continue to Piuray Lagoon for ducks, teal, grebes, lapwings and other Andean waterbirds, then inspect a small reed pond for Yellow-winged Blackbird, Many-colored Rush Tyrant and Wren-like Rushbird. Finish at Ensifera Camp, where native flowers attract Giant Hummingbird, Black-tailed Trainbearer, Sparkling Violetear and other hummingbirds. Start back at about 11:30 am, reaching Cusco near 1:00 pm; transfer to Ollantaytambo can be arranged as the route endpoint.
