Glossy Swiftlet
Collocalia esculenta (Linnaeus, 1758)
Apodidae — Swifts
Glossy Swiftlet, Collocalia esculenta, is a swift of the family Apodidae that breeds from Sulawesi through New Guinea and its offshore islands to the Solomon Islands. It was first described by Linnaeus in 1758. The bird is glossy black-blue above, with a black chest and white underparts marked with fine dark speckling at the edges. Its tail is rounded with a slight notch and small white panels, and it can be hard to tell from the white-rumped swiftlet without seeing both upper and lower plumage. It nests in caves and buildings.
