Green Bee-eater

Merops orientalis

The Green Bee-eater (Merops orientalis) is a small, slender bird with predominantly green plumage, a thin black beak, and a distinctive red patch on its throat. These agile birds are known for their remarkable aerial acrobatics as they hunt for flying insects, particularly bees and wasps. They are commonly found in open country, including grassland, scrub, and agricultural areas, where they perch on wires or branches to spot their prey. Green Bee-eaters are highly social and often gather in large flocks, particularly during the breeding season. They construct burrows in sandy banks for nesting and are known for their melodious calls and vibrant plumage.
