Discosura conversii

The Green Thorntail (Discosura conversii) is a striking hummingbird species found in the humid forests of Central and South America. This species is known for its vibrant green plumage, with males displaying an iridescent green throat and elongated tail feathers. Females have a more subdued coloration with white underparts and green upperparts. Green Thorntails are typically found in the understory of montane forests, where they feed on nectar from a variety of flowers. They are also known to feed on small insects and spiders. Due to habitat loss and potential threats from climate change, the conservation status of the Green Thorntail is currently listed as Near Threatened by the IUCN.
