Green Thorntail

Discosura conversii (Bourcier & Mulsant, 1846)

Green Thorntail, Discosura conversii, is a hummingbird of Middle America and western South America, breeding from Costa Rica to western Ecuador. It occurs in forest canopies in humid montane and lowland evergreen forest, and also visits flowering trees in clearings. The species is recognised by the male’s narrow outer tail feathers, which give it its common name. It is generally resident, though it may shift to lower elevations in the wet season. The green thorntail was described by Bourcier and Mulsant in 1846 and is treated as monotypic.
