Grey-backed Cisticola, Cisticola subruficapilla, is a passerine of south-west Africa, breeding in southernmost Angola, Namibia and western South Africa. It is a resident bird of coastal fynbos, karoo scrub and grassy places on estuarine flats. The southern form has a grey back marked with black streaks and pale grey-white underparts, which makes it stand out from other cisticolas. It is a small, common species, with a reddish head, a rufous patch in the folded wing, and a short grey bill. Juveniles are duller and show a yellow face.
