Grey-headed Kingfisher

Halcyon leucocephala (Müller, PLS, 1776)

Grey-headed Kingfisher, Halcyon leucocephala, is a kingfisher in the family Alcedinidae and breeds widely across Africa. It also occurs on islands off the African coast and in southern Arabia, with a range that reaches from the west of the continent to the Horn, the south-east and the far south. The adult has a pale grey head, a black upper body, bright blue wings, tail and rump, and chestnut underparts. It has a long red bill. The sexes are similar. It was first formally described in 1776 by Philipp Ludwig Statius Müller.
