Guira Cuckoo

Guira guira (Gmelin, JF, 1788)

Guira Cuckoo, Guira guira, breeds in eastern and southern Brazil, Bolivia, Paraguay, northern Argentina and Uruguay. It is a cuckoo of open and semi-open country, and is also found in pastures, wetlands, suburban parks and gardens. The species is the only one in its genus. It is a gregarious bird, often seen in flocks, and it may forage on the ground or move between perches. Its breeding nest is placed in a tree fork, and eggs may be laid in individual nests or in communal ones.
