Hawfinch

Coccothraustes coccothraustes (Linnaeus, 1758)

Hawfinch Coccothraustes coccothraustes is a finch in the family Fringillidae, breeding across the Palearctic from most of Europe through western, central and eastern Asia to the Russian Far East and Hokkaido, with wintering birds reaching north-western Himalayas and central and eastern China. It is a widespread breeder in Europe and temperate Asia. Its range includes north-west Africa and south-west and central Asia. The species was described by Linnaeus in 1758. It is the only living member of its genus.
