Tetraogallus himalayensis

The Himalayan Snowcock (Tetraogallus himalayensis) is a large, ground-dwelling bird native to the high-altitude regions of the Himalayas. It is known for its striking appearance, with a predominantly white plumage adorned with black and gray markings, and a distinctive red patch above the eye. This bird is well-adapted to its harsh alpine environment, using its powerful legs to traverse steep slopes and rocky terrain. The Himalayan Snowcock is primarily herbivorous, feeding on a variety of alpine vegetation. Its haunting calls can often be heard echoing through the mountainous landscapes. Due to its remote and rugged habitat, the species is relatively understudied.
