Hispaniolan Mango

Anthracothorax dominicus (Linnaeus, 1766)

Hispaniolan Mango, Anthracothorax dominicus, is a hummingbird that breeds on Hispaniola and nearby islands in the Caribbean. It was first described by Linnaeus in 1766. The species is found across the main island and several small offshore islands, and it lives in both wet and dry places. These include clearings, gardens, shade coffee plantations, secondary forest and coastal shrubland. It usually occurs below 1,500 m, though it has been recorded much higher, up to 2,600 m. It is a resident bird throughout its range.
