Hooded Crane

The Hooded Crane is a medium-sized crane species known for its distinctive black and white plumage and a red patch on its crown. These elegant birds breed in the wetlands of northeastern Siberia and migrate to East Asia for winter. They are often found in marshes, rice paddies, and shallow wetlands, where they forage for aquatic plants, insects, and small vertebrates. The Hooded Crane is a social bird, often seen in large flocks during migration. Despite facing threats from habitat loss and hunting, conservation efforts have been implemented to protect their breeding and wintering grounds.
