Hooded Pitta

Pitta sordida

The Hooded Pitta is a strikingly colorful bird found in the forests and woodlands of Southeast Asia and Australia. It is known for its vibrant plumage, with a black head, green back, and bright red belly. This medium-sized bird is often found foraging on the forest floor, where it feeds on insects, small reptiles, and seeds. The Hooded Pitta is known for its melodic and distinctive call, which echoes through the dense vegetation. It builds its cup-shaped nest on the ground, hidden among the leaf litter. While not currently classified as threatened, the Hooded Pitta faces habitat loss and degradation due to deforestation and human development.
