House Finch

Haemorhous mexicanus

The House Finch is a small, colorful bird native to western North America. It has a conical bill, brown streaks on the back and belly, and males display vibrant red plumage on the head, throat, and chest. These social birds are often found in urban and suburban areas, where they frequent bird feeders and open habitats. They are known for their cheerful, warbling song, which can be heard throughout the year. House Finches build cup-shaped nests in a variety of locations, including trees, shrubs, and human-made structures. Their diet consists of seeds, fruits, and insects.
