Iiwi, Drepanis coccinea, is a passerine finch found in the Hawaiian Islands of the Pacific Ocean, where it breeds. It is a well-known bird of Hawaii and is placed in the family Fringillidae. The species was described by Forster, G, in 1780. It is most easily recognised by its long, downcurved bill, a feature that sets it apart from many other Hawaiian birds. The bird is also strongly associated with Hawaii in local culture and is one of the island’s most familiar native species.
