Inca Tern

Larosterna inca

The Inca Tern is a striking seabird found along the coasts of South America, known for its distinctive appearance and raucous calls. With its dark gray body, white moustache, and red-orange bill and feet, the Inca Tern is easily recognizable. This species is highly social, often forming large colonies on rocky cliffs and islands. Inca Terns are skilled fliers and adept at diving for fish, their primary source of food. They are known for their elaborate courtship displays, which involve aerial acrobatics and the exchange of small fish. While the population is currently stable, threats such as habitat destruction and pollution pose potential risks to their future survival.
