Indian Courser

Cursorius coromandelicus

The Indian Courser (Cursorius coromandelicus) is a ground-dwelling bird found in open dry habitats across the Indian subcontinent. It is characterized by its sandy brown plumage with black and white markings, long legs, and a distinctive black stripe running from the eye to the neck. These birds are well-adapted to their arid habitats and are known for their swift running and agile movements. Indian Coursers forage for insects and small invertebrates on the ground using their keen eyesight and quick reflexes. Although they are generally widespread, their populations are declining due to habitat loss and disturbance.
