Indian Nightjar

The Indian Nightjar (Caprimulgus indicus) is a nocturnal bird found in South Asia. It has a cryptic plumage that helps it blend into its surroundings during the day. With a wide gape and large eyes, it is a formidable aerial insect hunter. Its distinctive call, a repetitive churring sound, is often heard at dusk and dawn. The Indian Nightjar prefers open woodlands, scrublands, and grasslands for nesting and foraging. It is well adapted to low-light conditions and is known for its intricate camouflaging plumage. This species is relatively widespread and is not currently considered at risk.
